Erik ten Hag has revealed he is relishing the challenge awaiting him at Manchester United.

The former Ajax boss arrives in the Premier League on the back of winning three Eredivisie titles with the Dutch giants. His appointment at Old Trafford means he is the fifth permanent United manager since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.

Ten Hag faces a mammoth task at United as he looks to build a team capable of challenging at the top of the Premier League. Current interim manager Ralf Rangnick has already been in contact with the 52-year-old as he hands over control to the Dutchman.

Ten Hag has been in England this week as he looks to map out his plans for the summer, and he’s admitted he’s relishing the challenge ahead of him. He told Ajax’s YouTube channel: “It’s a greater challenge because the league is much better and obviously being responsible for the football achievements demands a lot from someone and requires the necessary qualifications.

“The demands are high. I can’t wait. My time at Ajax will definitely help me. That must be a lot [of faith in himself] when the world is on fire you must stay calm and make the right choices.”
