Aston Villa have announced their third signing of the January transfer window bringing in highly-rated Scotland centre-back Kerr Smith.

The 17-year-old made his first-team debut for Dundee United against Steven Gerrard’s Rangers 13 months ago, with Villa now wrapping up a deal for a reported fee that could rise to £2million.

Steven Gerrard wants more Aston Villa transfers amid stunning January window

Steven Gerrard says he is looking for “steel and style” at Aston Villa and has targeted further additions to his squad this month.

And with Villa targeting a strong second half to the season, as they welcome Manchester United to Villa Park today, Gerrard says he is still hoping to add more players, with a centre-back on the agenda.

And Roma boss Jose Mourinho has done Villa head coach Steven Gerrard a favour having sanctioned his departure, which has seen him agree to terminate Olsen’s loan move at Sheffield United.

That is set to pave the way for Olsen to join Villa with personal terms all agreed on a deal until the end of the season.
