Argentina could only manage a 1-1 draw with Chile in their Copa America opener on Monday night, but the fans of the Albiceleste were able to celebrate a special Lionel Messi goal in the first half.
In the 33rd minute, the No.10 curled a freekick past Claudio Bravo for the lead. It was very similar to a strike that Diego Maradona produced in the 1987 Copa America against Ecuador.
Messi even celebrated his goal in the same way that Maradona did 34 years ago, running and jumping and punching the air.
There had also been a touching tribute for Maradona before kick off in the match.
Messi‘s goal was a significant one too because it made him Argentina‘s all-time top scorer in competitive matches, as he now has 39 and has overtaken Gabriel Batistuta‘s 38.
