Report: Antoine Griezmann not in Laporta’s plans, offered to Juventus

Barca Universal

According to recent reports from Italian outlet Calciomercato, Barcelona have offered forward Antoine Griezmann to Juventus, since president Joan Laporta reportedly does not consider the Frenchman to be an integral part of his plans for the club next season onwards.

Barcelona are in the middle of a total revamp this summer, in order to wriggle their way out of the worst financial crisis in the club’s 122-year history. Selling players in the summer, therefore, becomes imperative. There has been on-and-off speculation about Griezmann’s departure regularly for the past few months. However, now it looks like there are concrete destinations.

Juventus are facing a conundrum with regards to the continuity of their star-man Cristiano Ronaldo. The report highlights that Barcelona are also keeping tabs on the situation, not because they’re interested in the Portuguese, but so that they might potentially offload Griezmann to recoup some funds.

While it will be near impossible for Juve to pay anywhere near the 120 million euro sum that the Catalans paid to bring the Frenchman to the Camp Nou, his rise in form over the past season compared to his inaugural campaign could fetch the Blaugrana a decent sum. Considering their current economic restrictions, any sum upwards of say 60 million would be of huge benefit.

The World Cup winner recently opened up about the scrutiny he faces at Barcelona and how he feels more free playing for his national side. Perhaps he could be hinting toward a desire to search for greener pastures shortly. Especially so if the rumours are true and he is unhappy that Laporta does not fully count on him.

Ronaldo’s decision will ultimately play a massive role in Juventus’ transfer business in the window. As of now, there is no decision from the superstar, and neither is there any movement from Griezmann’s camp. All parties will be focused on the upcoming Euros.
