While Bayern Munich spurned their first chance of being crowned Bundesliga champions with a 2-1 defeat to Mainz, Manchester City and Inter could be confirmed Premier League and Serie A winners on the weekend.
Inter are 11 points clear of Atalanta in second and 13 ahead of Napoli, Juventus and Milan with 15 points left to play for.
Should Antonio Conte‘s side defeat Crotone and Atalanta fail to pick up three points at Sassuolo, they will be champions.
“We do not want any unpleasant surprises. We are about to achieve something extraordinary and historic for the club after a long time,” Conte said in his pre-match press conference.
“We want to value all the work we have done. Winning the Scudetto will be a work of art.”
The Nerazzurri need just four points from their five remaining games to lift their first Serie A title since the 2009/10 season.
In that year, they were coached by Jose Mourinho and, with players like Diego Milito, Samuel Eto’o, Wesley Sneijder, Maicon and Javier Zanetti, won the treble: Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League.
City inches away
Manchester City are about to win their third Premier League of the last four seasons. If Pep Guardiola‘s men beat Crystal Palace and Manchester United lose to rivals Liverpool, the Sky Blues will be crowned champions.
“Let me try to beat Crystal Palace. We cannot control the rest. It will be tough,” Guardiola said ahead of the game.
City need just five points in the last five games to lift the title.
