  1. Mata seems like a good dude. He really seemed to embrace the city, the culture and the fans. He carried us many times that season. I was honestly so disappointed when we sold him.

  2. I’m still disgusted he was sold in the first place. He’s been absolutely wasted at Man Utd.

  3. Obviously that was pretty painful the let him go, but I can see why Mou didn’t exactly want him. He has his specific tactical regime, and fielding both Hazard and Mata who contribute almost none to the defensive play was not something Mourinho wanted. That’s why he preferred players like Oscar or Willian who apart from offensive threat also worked in defence.

  4. Mata was quality for us. The kind of player i love most, no real obvious physical qualities but instead all in the mind and technique. I think he’s really unlucky in that he became a footballer at this time period though, the age of the free roaming number ten is at a pause basically. Even the likes of David Silva and Ozil are having to find new positions and new niches to stay effective. Mata has done that too by playing more on the wing but he just doesn’t have the attributes to be as much of a star there unfortunately. I would absolutely love for him to be played behind the strikers, free role, threading balls through but its just not that common in this day and age ☹

  5. Out of all the players we’ve sold too soon, Mata still hurts.

    Another Mourinho fuck about.

  6. God how I loved to watch him in our jersey. And then Mourinho fucked that up.

He was delightful to watch and I always enjoyed the way he played.

  7. I was so upset when Mou sold Mata to ManU… and then he goes to ManU & says “I kinda like Mata now”
    Smh

  8. Probably still my favourite chelsea player outside the legends. The only chelsea shirt I’ve had with a name on the back was his. Beautiful man.

  9. Imagine picking Oscar over this guy. A lot of us knew it was wrong while it was happening as well.

  10. It feels like he will be remembered in England as a Chelsea player despite playing at United much longer

  11. This looks like the highest number of assists from a player in a single season ever, and I can’t seem to figure out why he doesn’t get the attention he deserves. What an absolute legend.

  12. He was with us 2.5 seasons and has been with Utd for double that but always feel he is still ours and has done more for us then them.

  13. Did anyone read the letter he wrote to the fans when he left us (we sold him)?

I was like, “Who the fuck is cutting onions?” 🥺

  14. They replayed the 2012 FA Cup Final on TV in Canada last night, he was definitely one of my favourites while he was there but its hard to remember just how integral he was given how short his stay was

  15. Man those two seasons he was real class. Shame he didn’t move back to Spain. Would’ve been better for his career

  16. Excellent passer full stop. Not a legend. Not a shame he was sold. Not a record book holder. They appear to not even be legit records acording to commenters. Attractive to watch him link us, but when that is the end of your assets, that’s the professional career you’ll have. Positive and grateful.

  17. Mata was unfortunately a luxury player. So many games we struggled cause he was unable to play the role of first defender. PTSD from the game against city when Yaya came like a train through our midfield. If we should have kept mata you need to build a team around him. And there is not many teams through the ages built around one player that were good. Exceptions are Messi and Cruyff teams. And they are heads and shoulders above Mata. We could have tried, but then there we could not have kept. De Bruyne and Hazard. Salah would fit well since he got work rate. But it was just easier to let Mourinho do his thing and bring us top again.
