Matt Ritchie update
Matt Ritchie has been on Newcastle’s books for around three and a half years now.
Since his move up north Ritchie has gone on to feature 129 times for Newcastle and was one of their standout stars under Rafa Benitez.
Ritchie looked set for a pivotal role under Steve Bruce as well with the 30-year-old starting Newcastle’s first three league ties this campaign.
However, Ritchie sustained an injury in Newcastle’s League Cup clash vs Leicester back in August.
The midfielder has missed every Newcastle game since.
Now, on Thursday the 28th of November, Newcastle have provided a fresh update on Ritchie.
The Magpies confirmed Ritchie has undergone a second operation on his ankle and is expected to return to action in January 2020:
Newcastle United can confirm that Matt Ritchie has undergone a second operation on the ankle injury he sustained during the Carabao Cup clash with Leicester City in August.
Ritchie sustained the injury following a challenge by Foxes midfielder Hamza Choudhury and was forced to have an initial surgical procedure in October.
The 30-year-old will continue his rehabilitation on Tyneside and is expected to return to action in January 2020.

Newcastle vs Manchester City
The latest tie Newcastle will have to contest without Ritchie is against Manchester City on Saturday.
Steve Bruce’s side head into the City game in fairly decent form having lost just one in four.
Newcastle also have an ok record against the bigger clubs so far this campaign. They have picked up wins over Tottenham and Manchester United and only lost 1-0 vs Chelsea and Arsenal.
As for Man City, they are still trying to close that nine-point gap between themselves and league leaders, Liverpool.
