Liverpool news: Man City warned Reds will ‘eat them alive’ if they make one mistake | Football | Sport
City visit Liverpool six points behind the current Premier League leaders.
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds side are yet to taste defeat in the league this season as they vie for their first top-flight title since 1990.
Melchiot reckons Liverpool can take more risks than City on Sunday due to their lead over the visitors.
He says Manchester City must attack but admits any errors at the back could well be punished by the hosts.
“Anfield is for everybody the same thing, right?” Melchiot told Premier League Productions.
“When you turn up and the fans get behind them and just the historical side of that club, it affects everybody.
“It doesn’t matter what kind of player you are, you know what you’re turning up and that team is going to be ready.
“The one that can take the risk [on Sunday] is Liverpool. Liverpool can arguably take way more risks than City can because they’re in the driving seat, so they can dictate what kind of game they want to play.
“If we see Liverpool playing a more defensive game we’re not going to complain because well say ‘yeah, they’re being smart’.
“But if they play an attacking game we’re going to be like ‘oh, this is great because they’re really taking the risk, and they can’. So they’re in the comfort zone.
“When you look at City, City has to attack – there is no other choice.
“The good side to it is the history of [Pep] Guardiola, where he comes from and the way he wants to play his football is never in a defensive way.
“So that’s why, if I look at this game, I just expect a lot from City but I do believe one mistake and Liverpool will really eat them alive.”
