Firmino’s message to Reds fans’ song

Roberto Firmino says hearing his name being sung at Anfield and in away ends across the country is ‘cool’ and motivates him to do even better when he is on the pitch representing the Reds.

The Brazilian forward, who has scored three times in the Premier League so far this season and will be hoping to add to that number with a goal against Manchester City tomorrow afternoon, was asked about the song, and says it has a positive impact on how he plays.

He told ESPN Brasil, via Sport Witness: “It’s cool! The rhythm of the song is a little Latin, a little La Bombonera. It is very motivating.

“For those on the pitch, it’s good to hear the fans singing their name, their music. It motivates us to do our best on the pitch and help the team.”

Firmino could be crucial against a suspect Manchester City defence, which could contain midfielder Fernandinho alongside either John Stones or Nicolas Otamendi. Goalkeeper Ederson is also expected to miss out through injury.

The big question for Jurgen Klopp is whether to start with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who played in Firmino’s number nine role for a spell against Genk on Tuesday, in midfield, or to bring back captain Jordan Henderson.
