Chelsea fans fearing the worst about Gary Cahill’s return to Stamford Bridge
Chelsea fans are adamant that former star Gary Cahill will come back to haunt them today at Stamford Bridge.
The former England international enjoyed a stellar career with the Blues, winning two Premier League titles, two FA Cups, the Champions League, and two Europa League titles.
Now 33, the centre-half left the club after the end of his contract to join Crystal Palace on a free transfer.
And he is set to play his first game against his former side on Saturday for Roy Hodgson’s men.
Cahill’s task will be to stop the likes of Tammy Abraham, Willian and Callum Hudson-Odoi in attack whilst also denying former teammate Frank Lampard a fourth home win of the season.
But Blues fans are worried that their former defender could come back and not only play a blinder, but score a goal.
“Mate he is going to score against us aint he,” wrote on fan online.
“You just know he’s going to score,” said another.
While one fan wrote: “Former players love scoring against us. Alright I’m scared now.”
And another fan said: “He’s going to score off a corner against us, isn’t he?”
One fan was just pleased to see Cahill make his return and hoped everyone else would give him a good reception.
They said: “You just know he’s going to be a rock at the back. Going to be a great reception for him, hope the fans give him an ovation/loud welcome cheer.”
A win for Chelsea against Palace could potentially see them move up to second spot in the Premier League.
They currently occupy fourth spot but sit level on points with Leicester in third and are only two points behind Manchester City in second.
Cahill has played nine Premier League matches for Palace since joining in the summer.
And he has helped them to a respectable ninth place after 11 games.
