Jamie Carragher left in stitches after Patrice Evra’s Gary Neville comment on MNF | Football | Sport
Patrice Evra was part of the pundit team for Arsenal’s defeat against Sheffield United.
And afterwards, he spoke in detail about his playing career – having retired earlier this year.
But to Carragher’s surprise – and glee – Evra chose against naming Neville as part of the line-up.
Instead, he put Brazilian Dani Alves as the best right-back he played with.
Explaining, he joked: “Actually, yeah, I was going to go for Gary.
“He just texted me saying ‘Patrice, can you please put me in your 11’
“No, but Dani Alves, what a player. What a player.”
Carragher then asked why Evra opted against putting Neville in the team, and cracked up laughing at his reply.
“No, he [Alves] is more talented!” Evra quipped.
“Gary didn’t get enough credit. I love Gaz, he was a consistent right-back.
“But Dani Alves was a different quality.”
Evra’s team also included a centre-back pairing of Rio Ferdinand and Georgio Chiellini.
And the ex-United left-back explained why he had left out Nemanja Vidic in favour of the Juve stalwart.
“It was difficult for me to leave out Vida,” he continued.
“I wanted a mix, because I put Rio. Rio was the one who was always calm on the ball.
“Vida was the warrior, definitely some United fans won’t be happy, but I had to put a mix and so I put Rio.”
