Chelsea fans praise Tammy Abraham for passionate celebration during Newcastle win
The striker wasn’t offered a proper chance at Stamford Bridge under other managers.
But Frank Lampard has given Abraham a starting role this season, which has resulted in him scoring eight goals so far this term.
The 22-year-old wasn’t involved in the build-up to Chelsea‘s only goal on Saturday, as Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi combined to set up Alonso midway through the second-half.
Eagle-eyed fans spotted Abraham’s response to the goal, however, as the youngster celebrated in front of the home fans behind the goal.
The Chelsea star skipped down the byline, fisting pumping ecstatically three times in the direction of supporters.
Abraham then ran to the corner flag and hugged Alonso before being swamped by team-mates.
“This is passion,” one Chelsea fan tweeted.
“A proper Chelsea man,” one said.
“Something I’ve been wanting to see since JT and Lamps left, true blue,” wrote one.
“Abraham celebrated the goal more than Alonso,” one joked.
“This was Tammy once Alonso scored. This is what it meant to him. This is a perfect example of why Chelsea needed to finally use their own,” said another.
Frank Lampard heaped praise on Abraham after Saturday’s win, admitting he is happy with the former Aston Villa loanee’s improvement.
“Yes, I think he can [keep progressing],” Lampard said.
“He is a sponge. He wants to listen, he wants to get better, he wants to improve his game, he wants to score more goals, he wants to help his team-mates.
“And so he has got a beautiful base of that in terms of coaching.
“His goals and performances will show what he can do at this level. Hopefully, we can move him up the levels even more.
“He has been scoring goals regularly but today was not quite the norm. What you see with Tammy is what you get: physicality and movement. To keep trying and be a problem for the defenders.”
