Swansea City vs Manchester United U23s highlights and reaction

Manchester United U23 made it three wins in a row in all competitions with an excellent win away to Swansea City in the Premier League 2.

Wood’s team selection has dropped a few selection hints ahead of the senior side’s Europa League clash on Thursday with Angel Gomes, James Garner, Tahith Chong and Brandon Williams all not included.

Defender Max Taylor was named among the substitutes after successfully returning from treatment for cancer and looked impressive after coming on for the injured Teden Mengi.

Ethan Laird, Dylan Levitt, Langie Ramazani and Aliou Traore were all impressive as United cruised to victory away from home.

The game was comfortable for United in the end and the U23s return to action against Stoke City on Friday.

Manchester United U23 made it three wins in a row in all competitions with an excellent win away to Swansea.

The hosts took the lead early on when Kieran Evan’s deflected shot beat Matej Kovar in the United net though the keeper will be disappointed to have been beaten so easily.

Swansea’s opener was a wake up call and United quickly turned the game on it’s head.

Largie Ramazani was a constant threat and was fouled just outside the area after some quick footwork. His stood over the free-kick and dipped it up and over the wall to equalise.

On the stroke of half-time, the linesman adjudged Brandon Cooper to have handled the ball in the area and Dylan Levitt coolly slotted home the penalty.

United continued to control the game after the break with Max Taylor impressing on his comeback from cancer treatment.

Ethan Laird was a menace on the right hand side and the third goal came from his fantastic work – his teasing cross was met by D’Mani Mellor with the ball ricocheting off the Swansea goalkeeper and in.

Swansea had chances to get back into the contest but the game was put to bed by Aliou Traore.

The midfielder showcased his footwork and strengh to weave his way past two defenders before slotting the ball home to ensure United left with three points.

Next up, Stoke City on Friday.

The United keeper made an excellent save to keep the lead at two.

Quick turn of pace from Traore as he dribbles past a few Swansea defenders.

He strides into the box but the defender makes a great block.

A towering leap from Bernard but he can’t direct his header towards goal.

Laird is replaced by Dillon Hoogewerf.

The 16-year-old has a chance to impress.

The captain intercepts the ball and goes on the attack.

He unleashes a fierce drive towards goal but it’s just over the bar.

Swansea have a counter attacking chance but Bernard is there to make a block.

More excellent work from Ramazani who picks out Laird.

The defender beats his man with ease and delivers another perfect cross.

This time Mellor directs his header towards goal but the ball cannons off goalkeeper Josh Gould and over the line.

Swansea putting pressure on the United defence with a number of set pieces.

Ball is floated into the middle but Taylor is there to clear with a strong defensive header.

He’s been excellent since coming on.

Laird has been seriously impressive here, skipping past defenders with ease down the right.

He hits the byline and jinks into the box before delivering a low cross right through the box but no-one can get on the end of it.

United keep the pressure on and Traore finds Ramazani who skies it.

Excellent work down the left for United.

Ramazani and Devine combining and the left-back creates some space for a cross.

However, he can’t pick out a man in the middle and the danger is cleared. United well on top.

He’s been impressive throughout down the right. Great dribbling and he is fouled by two Swansea midfielders.

Puigmal opens up a yard of space but the flag is raised for offside.

An early Swansea goal was quickly cancelled out by a superb Ramanzani free-kick.

Dylan Levitt handed United the lead from the penalty spot.

The visitors have been much improved since falling behind and are much the better team heading into the break.

Levitt was caught in possession and Swansea were quick to pounce.

The shot was straight at Kovar who had a strong hand to stop the rebound.

Mengi is in real pain here and can’t continue – a real concern for United.

He will be replaced by Max Taylor who makes his first appearance since returning from treatment for cancer.

Dangerous ball into the middle after a Swansea penalty shout was dismissed.

Mengi did well to block it but took a whack in the process and has stayed down.

The centre-back seems in real pain.

A cleared ball was whipped back into the middle but Kovar done well to collect under a challenge.

Ramazani again threatening following Levitt’s smart pass.

His shot was blocked and the danger was cleared.

Excellent run and Puigmal picks him out however the forward can’t sort his feet out and the danger is cleared.

Ramazani has been the best player on the pitch so far.

Much better from United. Ramazani leads the charge again and picks out Laird on the right hand side.

The defender swings an inch perfect cross onto the head of Mellor but the United forward can’t pick a corner.

He should have scored and has struggled to impose himself tonight.

The hosts on the counter attack again, great work from Josh Thomas. Dangerous ball in but Kovar does well to stop it.

Laird also helped out but Swansea really should have regained the lead.
