Liverpool star questioned after Man Utd draw – ‘I don’t know where he fits in’ | Football | Sport

Liverpool failed to impress against Manchester United on Sunday needing Adam Lallana’s late equaliser to escape with a point, and Paul Robinson has singled out Jordan Henderson for criticism.

The Reds’ skipper started the game but was taken off in the 71st minute to make way for the Lallana, who salvaged a late point for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Robinson has now questioned Henderson’s influence on the team, and whether he deserves to start.

“He seems to play well for Liverpool but I’m still unsure of his performances for England,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“I don’t know where he fits in, whether he prefers to be defensive or attacking?

“I think he likes not having the defensive responsibility but he has not played well this year.

“I think he has been indifferent for both club and country.

“And I don’t think he played particularly well yesterday either.”

The 29-year-old gave his thoughts on the team’s display after the draw, and he thinks a point was the right outcome.

He told the official Liverpool website when asked if a draw was fair: “Probably.

“I didn’t think we performed well enough in the first half, not our usual selves really, especially with the ball.

“We could have been a lot better but I thought the second half was a lot better.

“We changed it a little bit tactically, which helped us, and I thought the longer the game went on we were pushing for that winner, and towards that last five to 10 minutes I thought we were going to get it.

“Ox [Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain] came close with a great strike with his left foot and we kept pushing but, overall, a fair reflection of the game would have to be a point.

“But, like I say, we have got to be much better for the 90 minutes. I was disappointed that we couldn’t come here and put on a top performance because I felt as though we could have done that today.

“When you can’t win, you don’t lose, and that’s the sign of a good team. But we’ve got to learn from the game today and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
