Haringey Borough vs Yeovil: Police confirm arrests after racist abuse at FA Cup qualifier | Football | Sport

Metropolitan Police have confirmed that two men have been arrested, following an investigation into reports of racist abuse at Haringey Borough FC’s FA Cup clash.

Haringey Borough and Yeovil Town both walked off the pitch on Saturday, after the home side’s goalkeeper was allegedly the subject of racist abuse.

Yeovil fans reportedly threw an object at home goalkeeper Valery Douglas Pajetat, and he was spat at by away supporters.

The police have urged anyone with any further information to contact them, in a bid to help them with their investigation.

“Two men have been arrested this morning following an investigation into reports of racist comments made during a match between Haringey Borough FC and Yeovil Town on Saturday, 19 October,” said a Metropolitan Police statement.

“The men – aged 23 and 26 – were arrested in Chard and Yeovil on suspicion of racially aggravated common assault.

“They are both in custody at a police station in Somerset.

“Officers from the Met are leading the investigation with the assistance of Avon and Somerset police.

“Anyone who was at the match who has any further information that can help assist officers with the investigation should contact police on 101 quoting CAD 5272/19 Oct.”

Following the incident, football’s anti-discrimination charity, Kick It Out, urged the FA to dish out strong punishment, while also offering its support to Douglas and Haringey Borough.

“These reports of alleged racist abuse aimed at goalkeeper Valery Douglas Pajetat yet again means players are continuing to receive discriminatory abuse while doing their job.

“The Haringey manager and players took swift and decisive action as a result of the abuse, similar to that taken by the England team out in Bulgaria.

“Kick It Out has informed The FA and will support the club in identifying the offender(s) to ensure appropriate action is taken and strong punishment issued.

“We would also like to offer our full support to Douglas and all at Haringey Borough FC.”
