Gary Neville explains Man Utd worry despite impressive performance in Liverpool draw | Football | Sport
Gary Neville has pointed out that United will only have a few days in-between the league outing and the trip to Belgrade in Serbia on Thursday, before the fixture against Norwich on Sunday.
He Sky Sports: ”On the Europa League, I really worry about how this squad is going to cope with playing four games away in 10 days when you look at the bench today – there were young boys on there today.”
The ex-England international added that although he was impressed with the performance against Liverpool, the Europa League could have a negative impact.
He added: ”There will be creeks along the way and they can’t afford to lose their best players – the league has to be the priority.”
Neville had previously said: “Obviously they’re about to go and play away from home – they play in Belgrade, Norwich, Chelsea and then Bournemouth.
“I feel this team is suited to counter-attacking and playing away from home, just the way they set up just generally.
“They’ve struggled when teams have sat off them, like Liverpool did today.
“[Daniel] James, [Marcus] Rashford and [Anthony] Martial need space, so the away games might suit them – but they have to go and win at Norwich and at Bournemouth.”
He said: “It certainly helps, and the manner of the performance was good.
“We looked at the system and wondered if it would be a negative set-up, but it turned out to be very positive.
“But the key now for Ole is to kick on from here.
“It’s very easy to raise your game for this type of game, with the United fans behind you against Liverpool, but it’s now what they do over the next few weeks.
“They have to kick on and get some sort of momentum into the season and a winning run.”
