Galatasaray vs Real Madrid: Kroos to the rescue
Galatasaray vs Real Madrid German’s return should help midfield
Dani Carvajal was rested at Son Moix and will return, while Eden Hazard attended the birth of his fourth child and will therefore be available for the must-win game in Istanbul. There is good news for Zidane, too, as Toni Kroos has recovered from his injury to the adductor in his left leg and is thus set to start against Galatasaray.
The German’s absence on Sunday, in addition to Luka Modric‘s injury, led Zidane to play a midfield trio of Casemiro, Isco and James Rodriguez. Of the available players, only Casemiro and Fede Valverde were out-and-out midfielders, yet both returned from the international break late after playing with Brazil and Uruguay respectively.
As such, Isco and James were told to go against their natural instinct which is to play as the No.10 and create; instead they sat deeper looking to dictate the play, but they rarely seemed comfortable in this role.
Until Kroos‘ injury, 33 minutes into the match against Granada just before the international break, the German had been the most used player by Zidane this season, only resting the final nine minutes in the 2-2 draw away at Villarreal.
Again, Kroos has managed to return quicker than expected from an injury. Given that it was a muscle injury, it was thought that he could use El Clasico as a target, which was originally set to take place on October 26, but his recovery means that he is available for the crucial match in Istanbul. Kroos is back in charge.
