‘Definitely going to be out’ – West Brom injury and suspensions latest

West Brom’s injuries and suspensions – the issues that can get in the way of Albion fielding their strongest team from one week to the next.

This is your one-stop shop for all the latest news on the Albion players on the treatment table or the naughty step.

We’ll update it each week with the absentees, potential return dates and thoughts of the man in the dugout ahead of the Baggies’ Championship fixtures.

We’ll also keep you updated on those at risk of a suspension, be it a straight red card or an accumulation of yellows.

Then, further down, are details about the current casualties sidelined by injury.

It’s early days in the new season, but to date Albion have no suspensions to worry about.

Romaine Sawyers and Nathan Ferguson have collected three bookings, while Semi Ajayi, Darnell Furlong and Hal Robson-Kanu have two apiece to their name.

Injury: Knee

Barry missed the end of last season after undergoing surgery on his knee. His contract was up this past summer, but he continued to use the club’s training facilities in the close season as his rehabilitation began.

Slaven Bilic has confirmed he’ll give him a new deal when he proves his fitness, but Barry is a little way off from being involved.

Last match played: Leeds 4 West Brom 0 – Friday, March 1

Potential return date: N/A

What Bilic said: “We speak every day. He’s in the gym and he’s out on the pitch also. He’s quite close and I think he thought it was going to be a bit earlier.

“It’s a matter of days, and he and Ahmed will be major boosts for us.”

Matt Phillips”/>

Injury: Shin

Phillips missed his first Championship game of the 2019-20 campaign in Saturday’s win over Middlesbrough due to a shin injury.

He had previously scored four goals in the Baggies’ opening 11 fixtures, helping them to the top of the table.

The Scottish winger, who boss Slaven Bilic admitted had been carefully managed prior to the international break, received an injection to help his ongoing ankle complaint – it was treatment that ruled him out of Scotland’s matches against Russia and San Marino.

Phillips, though, took a knock to his shin in training and wasn’t risked at the Riverside as Albion retained their top spot in the Championship against Jonathan Woodgate’s Boro.

Last match played: West Brom 4 Cardiff City 2 – Saturday October 5

Potential return date: West Brom v Barnsley – Tuesday October 22

What Bilic said: “He doesn’t remember a kick, it’s not a big thing, hopefully,” Bilic said. “He’s going to do a scan on Sunday.

“It’s his shin. I expect him to be ready for Tuesday night.”

Kieran Gibbs”/>

Injury: Toe

Gibbs broke his toe in training over the international break, but it is not a major problem.

It will, though, mean that he likely misses the two games in the coming days, at home to Barnsley (Tuesday) and Charlton Athletic (Saturday).

Last match played: Derby County 1 West Brom 1 – Saturday August 24

Potential return date: Stoke City v West Brom – Saturday November 4

What Bilic said: “Kieran broke his toe in one of the sessions last week,” Bilic revealed. “So that’s one week, it’s going to be another week – it’s not that bad.

“They say it’ll be two, two and a half weeks that he’s out and then he’ll be back.”

Kenneth Zohore”/>

Injury: Calf

Zohore has scored twice in nine Championship games for the Baggies this season, last featuring in the win over Cardiff City immediately before the international break.

He missed the Boro win with the slight calf problem – but his return is expected quickly.

Last match played: West Brom 4 Cardiff City 2 – Saturday October 5

Potential return date: West Brom v Charlton Athletic – Saturday October 26

What Bilic said: “Kenneth’s got a small problem. It’s a grade one with his calf, and he’s definitely going to be out for tomorrow and Tuesday.

“Hopefully he’ll be back for the game against Charlton on Saturday.”

Chris Brunt”/>

Injury: Groin

Brunt was on the bench for Saturday’s win at Middlesbrough but is yet to complete his return by featuring on the pitch.

Last match played: West Brom U23s 2 Newcastle U23s 1 – Monday 23 September

Potential return date: West Brom v Barnsley – Tuesday October 22

What Bilic said: “We had a small issue with Chris Brunt and we will not push it.

“It’s not a full injury but it’s a little bit of a groin issue and if we push it hard it could become an issue so there’s no point in risking it.

“He has trained, so we have the majority ready.”
