Crystal Palace consider January transfer for Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud

Crystal Palace are considering a January swoop for Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud.

The Frenchman has not started a game since August and has spoken to Frank Lampard about a possible January exit.

That could open the door for Roy Hodgson, who is seeking a frontman to leads his side’s top six charge.

The Eagles are one of several sides to start well, but need a regular supply of goals if they are to continue their good form.

Giroud is proven in England’s top flight having notched 78 Premier League goals since moving to Arsenal in 2012.

The emergence of Tammy Abraham has seen him marginalised, but opportunities may soon exist at Selhurst Park, according to The Sun .

Lampard, though, is keen to keep the Frenchman in west London, admitting to regular dialogue with the 33-year-old about his lack of minutes.

Frank Lampard is aware of Olivier Giroud’s desire for minutes

He said: “I had a good chat with Oli before he went away and I always respect all the players, but particularly the players of that age of low thirties.

“I love his professionalism. He was bang on when he spoke to me and with his quotes when he was away with France. He shouldn’t be happy and accept not playing. That’s what good players do.

“I think, as I said to Oli, he will get his games and be a big influence for us.”

Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester City was a set back for Hodgson’s side, but they remain well poised.

Jordan Ayew is currently their leading scorer having bagged three goals so far this season.

But last season Luka Milivojević topped their scoring charts with 12, many of which were from the penalty spot.
