Arsenal seek to extend historic winning record in Yorkshire vs Sheffield United

Arsenal are aiming to extend their seven-game winning run in Yorkshire as they travel to Sheffield United tonight.

The Gunners’ success in the UK’s biggest county is the longest winning run by an away side in English top-flight history.

That run includes a hat-trick of wins over Hull City and two each against Middlesbrough and Huddersfield.

Yorkshire have not had a team finish in the top four since Leeds back in 2001 and, currently, the Blades are their only top-flight club.

The likes of Leeds, Middlesbrough, Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield are currently eyeing the riches of the Premier League in England’s second tier.

A win tonight for Arsenal though would be their first on the road since their opening-day success at Newcastle.

Unai Emery’s side are aiming for an eighth successive win in Yorkshire

They’ve since tasted defeat at Liverpool and shared the points with Watford and Manchester United.

Three points in Sheffield would see Unai Emery‘s side leapfrog Chelsea and Leicester into third.

But the Spaniard is under no illusions about the task that faces his side as they travel north.

He said: “We have challenges every day, we have challenges when we are playing matches and we have them collectively.

“This is our mentality and really we can be frustrated with some moments in our past. We are in our present but that frustration is to be one step ahead and be positive and be consistent in our mentality and our work.

The Spaniard will be without young forward Reiss Nelson while Alexandre Lacazette is still fighting an ankle injury which has kept him out since September, but may pass a late fitness test.
