Arsenal fans jump to Freddie Ljungberg’s defence after Mike Dean booking

Arsenal fans have hailed Freddie Ljungberg after the Gunners coach earned a booking in the Premier League clash at Sheffield United.

Ljungberg, who stepped up to the role of assistant first-team coach after managing the club’s Under-23s, saw yellow from referee Mike Dean for protesting for a penalty in the first half.

Bukayo Saka went to ground in the box on 39 minutes, which prompted the 18-year-old’s Arsenal team-mates to scream for a spot-kick.

Dean was having none of it, however, and cautioned Saka.

The decision sparked an outcry on the touchline from the Arsenal coaching staff.

But Dean decided to show a yellow card again – this time to Ljungberg.

Arsenal fans were already fuming at the team because they were trailing the Blades thanks to Lys Mousset’s stabbed effort from close range.

But they were pleased to see some passion on the touchline.

“Ljungberg showing more fight than the team,” one fan commented.

“GO ON LJUNGBERG,” shouted another.

“Every day I love Freddie Ljungberg more and more,” said a third.

A fourth wrote: “Ljungberg is a winner ffs.”

“Fair play to Freddie Ljungberg backing Saka from the touchline,” a fifth said.

While another wrote: “I love you Freddie Ljungberg. Please take over for Emery and save us all.”

Arsenal failed to find an equaliser by the half-time break, with Nicolas Pepe missing their best chance from close range.
