Mauricio Pochettino critical of Tottenham atmosphere in Watford draw – ‘Wasn’t the best’ | Football | Sport

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has criticised Spurs fans for an atmosphere that ‘wasn’t the best’ for the team’s 1-1 draw with Watford on Saturday.

Tottenham have struggled throughout this season, especially in recent weeks thanks to losses against Brighton and Bayern Munich.

They looked to bounce back against Watford but the Hornets went 1-0 up early thanks to Abdoulaye Doucoure’s strike.

Dele Alli equalised in the second half, however, despite some confusion over the goal after some VAR interruption.

Spurs sit seventh in the table and have failed to win since their victory over Southampton in September.

And Pochettino, who is under pressure this term because of Spurs’ poor form, thinks his side could have benefited from better support.

“The performance wasn’t great, but when you concede an early goal it is always tough, it is a difficult situation,” he said after the game.

“The atmosphere wasn’t in the way you love to play, it wasn’t the best.

“It is not easy, when I was a professional footballer in this type of situation it was always difficult.”

“For me [that goal] is the first step to build our confidence.

“The other day a friend said to me that in five years it’s the first time we’ve recieved a knock like that 7-2 and it’s a new thing for us and the players.

“I have to say that in the last 20 minutes our fans were amazing and pushed us on.”

Spurs next league game is against Liverpool, who are unbeaten this season through eight games.

The Reds sit top of the league by five points with title rivals Manchester City lagging behind in second place.
