Man Utd ace Paul Pogba delivers injury update – but he’ll miss Liverpool clash

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba says he is edging closer to a return in a positive injury update posted on Instagram today.

The Frenchman, who has missed four of United’s last seven games with an ankle problem, has been stepping up his rehabilitation out in Dubai.

He will not be fit in time for the Red Devils’ crucial showdown with Liverpool tomorrow at Old Trafford, with next Sunday’s trip to Norwich a more realistic return date.

But United fans will be buoyed by Pogba’s latest social-media post which shows a picture of the £89m ace training ahead of his long-awaited comeback.

The caption reads: “almost there” along with two emojis of a flexing bicep.

Recovering from injury is not all Pogba’s been up to in Dubai, nevertheless.

The 26-year-old also made headlines this week after Starsport revealed pictures of him chatting with Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane out in the Middle East.

Zidane was reportedly desperate to lure his compatriot to the Bernabeu over the summer, but a deal failed to materialise due to Real’s lack of funds.

It is believed Los Blancos will go back in for Pogba next summer, which makes the snaps of him and Zidane all the more worrying for United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was quick to play down the importance of the images, however, insisting Pogba wants to stay at Old Trafford.

When asked about the pictures, the Norwegian replied: “Here we go with the picture! I’ve not heard Paul Pogba say he doesn’t want to be here. Paul wants to stay here and play well.”

And after being reminded by a journalist that Pogba expressed his desire for “a new challenge” in the summer, Solskjaer added that he doesn’t have a problem with the former Juventus star bumping into Zidane.

“Paul is part of our plan going forward,” he said.

“He has been playing through the pain barrier. He has been criticised left, right and centre, but when he came back against Rochdale and Arsenal he could’ve easily not played.

“He wanted to play, he wanted to try to get back and it was too painful. He’s had a scan, he’s on the way back and he’s been on a few days off, working but he is away from here.

“Then there is a picture and being at Manchester United you do get pictures and speculation – but I don’t have any problem with that at all.”
