Chelsea hero Marcos Alonso fires back at Newcastle fans after Sunderland jibes
Marcos Alonso hit back at Newcastle fans who hurled abuse at him all game at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea scraped a 1-0 win over the Magpies at home today to make it five wins on the bounce and takes them to fourth in the Premier League.
And it was Alonso that grabbed the only goal of the game in the second-half after a pass from Callum Hudson-Odoi.
The Spaniard had subjected to abuse from the away fans all day because of his connections with arch-rivals Sunderland.
The 28-year-old spent half a season on loan at the Stadium of Light back in 2014.
And the former Fiorentina full-back tested the knife on the visitors on social media following his pivotal goal.
Goal journalist Nizaar Kinsella tweeted about the abuse Alonso had suffered from the Newcastle fans.
And the defender responded by mentioning Sunderland, accompanied with some laughing emojis.
The response was well backed by the Black Cats fans, one saying: “Love you Marcos.”
Another said: “Marcos has the last laugh.”
“Imagine the pain in their heart after your stroke that ball in,” this fan quipped.
Frank Lampard praised the impact of Christian Pulisic, who came on in the second half to provide the buzz needed to break through Newcastle’s defence.
He said: ”We were a little bit slow moving the ball side to side but not with enough risk to move people out of position.
“People were getting one on one. Callum, Christian and Willian particularly.
“I am really pleased for [Pulisic]. He is a hot topic because of his national team.
“Everyone has got carried away with the short term but in the long term there is a lot more to come.
“I am delighted for him. He will feel good about that and he should do.”
