Barcelona: Valverde: Great players always find each other on the pitch
Barcelona The coach discussed a great MSG display
Ernesto Valverde expressed his satisfaction with Barcelona‘s MSG trident after they took Eibar apart on Saturday afternoon.
Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Antoine Griezmann each scored a goal at Ipurua during the 3-0 win.
After a few difficult matches, it looks like the three frontmen are finally starting to understand each other on the pitch.
“It’s a question of time and of playing matches,” Valverde said about his front three.
“In the end, great players always find each other [on the pitch] and know where their teammates will be and know where the pass will go.
“They’ve participated and worked very hard.
“This is the reward.
“They scored a goal each, they understood each other well.
“The new players are finding their place and trying to understand each other.
“It’s a question of time before they understand each other better.”
As well as the three scorers, Frenkie de Jong played a key part in the victory and was applauded off by the home fans when he was substituted.
“He’s having a great start to the season,” Valverde said about the midfielder.
“We’ve seen that he gives us a lot for the strength that he has, as much in attack as in defence.
“This is why the crowd recognised him.”
Samuel Umtiti also put in a notable performance on his return from injury and his boss was happy with his work.
“He’s not played in a while, but this was a special match,” Valverde said.
“I know how Eibar play and I know how strong Umtiti is in the air and passing the ball out.
“We needed fresh blood and he did well.”
It was a surprisingly comfortable afternoon for Barcelona given Eibar‘s tendency to lift their game against the big teams at home.
“Ipurua is the litmus test,” he said.
“They put a lot of pressure on you.
“You have to be very attentive to defend these crosses and counter very quickly.
“Everyone suffers here, we did today.”
Barcelona no longer have a LaLiga Santander fixture next weekend after El Clasico was called off for security reasons.
“I hope and I trust that we play this match before the end of the first round of fixtures, or at least before the end of the season,” Valverde said.
“It’s fashionable to not agree on anything on political issues.
“I hope that [there is an agreement] in this.
“I don’t think it’s too difficult.”
