Arsenal launch bid for Real Madrid three-time Champions League winner

Arsenal have made a bid for a Real Madrid winger ahead of the January transfer window, but are set to face stiff competition from Roma and Bayer Leverkusen, claims a report in the Spanish media.

Lucas Vazquez is the player in question, with the Spain international’s long-term future seemingly laying away from the Bernabeu with Brazilian forwards Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr. set to be given further opportunities in the first-team over the course of the season under Zinedine Zidane.

The Gunners would seem to be an ideal landing spot for the 28-year-old to provide competition in the attacking positions for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Nicolas Pepe and promising youngsters Reiss Nelson, Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka.

Vazquez has been a key component of Real Madrid’s squads over the course of his tenure with Los Blancos, even scoring the first penalty of the 2016 Champions League final shootout, but has rarely been able to nail down a starters berth for any sustained period of time.

Now, a report from Spanish outlet El Desmarque, (via Goal.com) states that “Arsenal have made a bid for Real Madrid midfielder Lucas Vazquez ahead of the January transfer window”.

The report goes on to claim that although Unai Emery‘s side are interested, Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen “lead the way” in the race to snap up Vazquez due to their willingness to offer “the best wages” and are seemingly set to match Real Madrid’s asking price of €20 million.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are reportedly keen on bringing an impressive La Liga centre-half to the Premier League.
