Inter confirm Alexis Sanchez has dislocated ankle/may require surgery

Serie A giants Inter Milan have this afternoon provided an update on the severity of the injury picked up by Alexis Sanchez over the weekend.

Chile stalemate

South American heavyweights Chile and Colombia went head-to-head on Saturday, in a friendly clash in Alacant, Spain.

Reinaldo Rueda’s Chile headed into proceedings in search of a bounce-back display, on the back of 4 straight outings without a win.

The latest of these saw La Roja put to the sword by Honduras last month.

When the 90 minutes were said and done on Saturday, though, Chile’s winless streak stretched to 5 games.

A disappointing clash, during which Colombia dominated in terms of chances created, eventually saw both sides forced to settle for a 0-0 stalemate.

Sanchez crocked

And an altogether underwhelming afternoon for Chile was also compounded by a blow on the injury front.

La Roja attacker Alexis Sanchez was forced off with just minutes remaining in the matchup, after going down with an ankle problem.

This quickly led to claims that the Manchester United loanee may be set for an extended spell on the sidelines.

As such, Sanchez flew back to parent club Inter Milan yesterday, before undergoing medical tests a short time ago.

And, as has since been confirmed by the Nerazzurri, the 30-year-old has suffered a dislocated ankle.

Sanchez will therefore travel to Barcelona tomorrow to see specialist Ramon Cugat, after which it will be decided whether or not surgical intervention is required.

To this point in his loan spell at the San Siro, Sanchez has managed 4 appearances across all competitions, notching one goal in the process.
