Chelsea news: Giroud ‘suffers’ says France boss Deschamps as Lampard prefers Abraham | Football | Sport
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has put faith in Tammy Abraham as his main striker this season, which has had an impact on Olivier Giroud.
Deschamps has outlined that Giroud is not happy with his lack of playing time at Stamford Bridge, and hinted that he could pursue a move away in January.
“You know, Olivier suffers his situation,” Deschamps said in his press conference.
“Before January, nothing will move..
“After, it will be up to him to see. I hope he will have more playing time.
“But we cannot take away his goals, his good performances. He scores, he makes others play well.
“He knows he is under pressure, but he always responds.”
Giroud, known for his hold-up play, helped France to their 2018 World Cup triumph without scoring a goal, but Lampard has stuck with Abraham so far this season, which has worked in his favour.
Giroud told Le Pelerin last week when asked about his situation: “Accept it? No. I do not accept it.
“You do not have to be fatalistic in certain situations. I have always been respectful and humble.
“Even if I do not agree with the coach, I do not criticise him.
“But in myself, I cannot accept it because I know what I’m worth on a pitch.
“Last year, when I felt I deserved to play, I asked the coach for explanations.
“But it was a progression because Chelsea is the English club that has won the most titles, with Man City, in ten years.”
