Tottenham news: Spurs would make Jose Mourinho decision because of Man Utd – Ian Darke | Football | Sport

Tottenham would not want Jose Mourinho as their next manager following his turbulent spell in charge at Manchester United, claims Premier League commentator Ian Darke.

Mourinho has been linked with the Tottenham job following a poor run of results for the north Londoners.

But Darke does not think current Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is leaving anytime soon, and says Mourinho would not be the right replacement if he does

“I don’t think Poch is going to go, I think they’re going to stand by him,” Darke told EPSN FC.

“But I do think there are quite deep-rooted problems now at Tottenham.

“I think things have got pretty stale there, I think the players are a little bit mentally shot.

“They’ve given it a lot this group, haven’t won anything and now I think when the chips are down in a match they find it quite hard to respond, like the other day.

“They go behind after a couple of minutes and collapse to a 3-0 defeat at Brighton.

“Who are they going to get that’s better than Pochettino? It isn’t Mourinho.

“I don’t think, after what happened at Manchester United, he would be greeted with open arms by Tottenham.

“There’s a bit of a tradition really that the club want an expansive, adventurous type of style and I don’t think Mourinho fits that.”

Darke believes Tottenham need to spend more in January to “freshen up” their squad.

“It’s hard to get a better manager than Pochettino and what he’s done,” Darke added.

“He’s done a great job at that club, I just think they’ve hit a little bit of a roadblock at the moment.

“I think they just need to freshen up that squad, they needed to do it more in the summer and they better get on with something in January as well.

“They need some new faces coming in there just to shake it all up a little bit.”
