Liverpool news: Alisson on Klopp team-talk that inspired Liverpool comeback vs Barcelona | Football | Sport

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has explained how his side’s Champions League comeback against Barcelona will stay with him forever.

The Reds ripped up the script to overturn a 3-0 deficit at Anfield to book their place in Madrid, where they eventually beat Tottenham 2-0 to win their sixth European Cup.

Alisson revealed that Klopp instructed his players to play with their typical gung-ho attacking style, even if it meant risking it all.

“We respected Barca a lot but we knew we could go back,” the Liverpool No 1 said in an interview with Mundo Deportivo.

“In England we went out for all and it was an incredible night.

“With Liverpool in the first leg we deserved more and Klopp told us to not slow down and continue imposing our high pace of play so we could achieve our goal.”

Alisson made a number of key saves to deny Barcelona from scoring a vital away goal that night and he also revealed his pleasure in his own personal performance.

“The truth is that Messi played very well in the first leg in Barcelona (against Liverpool) and scored two goals, but in the return I managed to stop him in some important moments,” he added.

“Messi is one of the best players in football history, but I don’t think only of duels with him.

“Both Barcelona and Argentina are two very good teams that have high quality players.

“Luckily, in the last three matches I have been able to overcome him, but the merits are of the whole team: Roma, Liverpool and Brazil.”

Liverpool were without Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino that night, as Divock Origi and Georginio Wijnaldum both scored twice to bring the power of Anfield to life.

Messi recently shed light on how the defeat left Barcelona on the floor amid questions surrounding the future of Ernesto Valverde.

“The defeat against Liverpool was our fault,” said Messi.

“What happened to us in that match, can not. We blocked ourselves.

“The Rome thing happened to us. It didn’t happen because of a thing with the coach.

“But neither was it my decision for him to stay, like it was said somewhere.

“I would be disappointed to spend another year without winning the Champions League.”
