Jack Grealish gets England backing as ex-Aston Villa man opens up on his advice for former teammate
Grealish gets Collymore backing for England
Former Aston Villa and England striker Stan Collymore believes Jack Grealish is “tailor-made” for the Three Lions.
Gareth Southgate’s England side fell to a 2-1 defeat to the Czech Republic on Friday night as their European Championship qualifying bid hit its first snag, the result bringing England’s first loss in a qualifier for a decade.
Chelsea‘s Mason Mount was the creative player in a midfield three, in front of Declan Rice and Jordan Henderson.
After the game, Collymore took to Twitter to call out for Villa skipper Grealish, who is yet to make his England bow.
Hutton’s advice for Traore
Ex-Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton admits he used to grow frustrated with Wolverhampton Wanderers star Adama Traore, telling him: “Slow down and pick the right option.”
The pair spent a season together in 2015-16 at Villa with Traore going on to excel at local rivals Wolves.
The Spanish winger fired home a cool double against Manchester City last weekend and drew plaudits for his blistering performance.
Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton said: “He’s a player I know well from Villa, he was so frustrating but so good. It kind of sums him up – he goes by people like they’re not there and then he’ll try to bust the net and the ball would go wild.”

Villa’s rivals have their say
Aston Villa are back among the Premier League elite – and the claret and blue supporters are selling-out allocations at will.
Dean Smith has taken Villa from Championship mediocrity to competing against the world’s best, completely revamping the first-team squad following a summer spend of £130million.
But have the opposition managers made of Smith’s side so far in 2019-20?
Mikel on Terry and Lampard
John Obi-Mikel was a Chelsea teammate of both John Terry and Frank Lampard – and he says he expected Villa coach Terry to become a Premier League manager first.
Lampard, of course, took Derby County to the play-off final last year before joining the Blues as boss in the summer. Terry, meanwhile, has been Villa’s assistant head coach for over 12 months now and he’s more than happy to keep learning under Dean Smith.
Mikel, though, told 61 Saat: “I am very happy for Frank, when we were playing at Chelsea we were expecting that John Terry and he would be very good managers. But we were expecting Terry to reach that level first.”
Fans react to Eric Dier link
Aston Villa fans have been having their say on Dean Smith’s side being linked with a January move for Eric Dier.
The England midfielder has more than 200 appearances under his belt for Villa’s Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur – but he has managed only three outings so far this season, Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Winks forming a regular central partnership for Spurs.
That has led to suggestions that Dier could be transfer-listed in January, with Villa among the frontrunners with bookmakers to secure a deal for the 25-year-old.
