Injury:

Thigh

Details

The Ecuador winger was stretchered off against Stoke, giving rise to fears his loan from Swansea could be massively compromised.

Blues have since confirmed he’ll be out for several weeks. “Scans have revealed an issue with the muscle and the winger won’t be returning to action for several weeks.”

Last match: Birmingham City 2 Stoke City 1 – Saturday, August 31

What Clotet said: “It’s wasn’t his knee, it was on the side of his quad – a little bit higher than the knee so I am not worried for a really bad injury, not like an ACL or anything.”

Potential return date: Several weeks – perhaps longer.

Injury:

Knee

Details

The Blues midfielder went down in pain during the second half of the 1-0 win against Leeds United in April and had to be taken off the pitch on a stretcher.

Then boss Garry Monk admitted afterwards that it didn’t look good and a scan confirmed Kieftenbeld would be set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The Dutchman damaged the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee – he might not be back until Christmas.

Last match: Birmingham City 1 Leeds United 0 – Saturday, April 6

What Clotet said: “At least after New Year, which if we consider this kind of injury is at least six months minimum, he will not be far off the goal, training with the first team, then time to get fit. Probably he will end up on seven or eight months.”

Potential return date: Six to nine months

Jonathan Grounds

Injury:

Calf

Details

Grounds was a key player under a succession of Blues managers before being sidelined by Garry Monk.

He spent last season on loan at Bolton but returned in the summer to find Pep Clotet in charge and the slate clean.

However, he hurt his calf in training. Since then he’s returned and has played 45 minutes and then an hour for the Under 23s.

Last match: Wolves 2 Birmingham City 0 Sunday, April 6, 2018

What Steve Spooner said: “First game back and he did very well. He’s a good pro and you can tell he’s looked after himself, he played with consummate ease.”

Potential return date: As soon as his fitness is where Clotet wants it he’s available.

Cheick Keita

Injury: Ankle

Details: Keita has spent the last two seasons out on loan, in both Italy and Belgium.

He hasn’t played for Blues since they lost to Villa in Harry Redknapp’s first game in charge, but Clotet has confirmed he’ll be given a chance to prove his worth.

However, in just his second game for the Under 23s this season, he hobbled off during the 1-0 defeat to Bristol City after a heavy challenge.

What Clotet said: “Physically he needs to get up to speed and then it will be up to me if I think he can help us.

“I see him more as a winger than as a full back, that is what we work on here, I see him more as a left winger than as a left back for the Championship. “

Last match: Bristol City U23 1 Birmingham City U23 0 – Monday, September 9

Potential return date: He was 19th man at Wigan.
