Arsenal hero Santi Cazorla privately contacts Unai Emery’s side about transfer deal | Football | Sport
Cazorla enjoyed a glittering spell in north London prior to leaving in the summer of 2018 and has since returned to fitness and form back in Spain.
The defender has impressed for Villarreal this season, helping them to ninth in the La Liga table.
Arsenal have reportedly expressed interest in securing the signature of the 22-year-old ahead of the summer.
Torres supposedly has a release clause of in between £44million and £65m – but Arsenal want to strike a deal for less.
They are not, though, the only club interested in securing the signature of the young Spaniard.
Chelsea are also keen with Frank Lampard’s side hoping to strengthen their defence once their transfer ban comes to an end.
And Manchester City are also sniffing about.
Pep Guardiola‘s side are a defender short after seeing club legend Vincent Kompany leave back in the summer.
City mulled over strengthening their backline shortly afterwards with Harry Maguire in their sights.
But the England international ended up moving to Manchester United instead and it looks like Torres is now their alternative.
Arsenal, meanwhile, need new defenders amid the struggles of David Luiz and Sokratis so far this season.
And former Gunners midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong believes that his old side should be looking specifically at Napoli‘s Kalidou Koulibaly.
“I watched the game against Watford and it wasn’t good,” Frimpong told Meta Ratings.
“Our defence is certainly weaker, when you compare it to Liverpool or Man City.
“David Luiz has been making some mistakes, and in my opinion there’s little difference between Luiz and Mustafi; I would rather see Calum Chambers selected.
“They need to be buying better defenders, like Koulibaly, who can make a big impact on Arsenal’s team.
“Yes, a Koulibaly! They have to improve the defence to challenge.”
