Pau Gasol on the World Cup: It’s when you go from being a team to being a family
Spain Basketball Spoke highly of the Spain squad and coach
Pau Gasol believes that Spain‘s teamwork was essential to winning the FIBA World Cup last month.
The 39-year-old did not take part, although his brother Marc played a key part in Spain winning gold, and Pau believes that the relationships formed amongst the Spain squad was key to their success.
“The victory was the result of the effort put in from all of the squad’s components,” Pau said.
“Everyone put in their grain of sand to achieve the collective success. Every component is key to the success or failure of a project.
“It’s when you go from being a team to being a family.”
Coach Sergio Scariolo was singled out by Pau for particular praise.
“The architect of this success has a name: Sergio Scariolo,” he added.
“He showed the level of knowledge he has of his players and his exceptional ability to make the team the best it could be.”
But the players, too, were deservedly praised for their efforts, focus and performance.
“The players knew how to maintain their level of concentration,” Pau said.
“They showed their maturity and focused on giving their all.
“Work, perseverance, commitment, sacrifice and determination are hallmarks of this group.”
