Man Utd target Moussa Dembele’s transfer stance on leaving Lyon for Red Devils explained | Football | Sport
And journalist Duncan Castles has claimed Dembele is open to joining United this winter, should they come calling.
He told the Transfer Window Podcast: “I can tell you there has been contact between Manchester United and individuals close to Moussa Dembele to assess the player’s interest in the move and to work out what the cost would be in terms of salary.
“And also, to get a feel for what it would take to get him out of Lyon.
“Dembele has been identified by United as a player who could be a top level centre-forward down the line.
“The interest from Dembele’s side in moving to the Premier League is large, he sees that as a place he will play further down his career.
“Were Manchester United to select Dembele as a target for the January window, he would be receptive to that move.
“And, I believe, he would take the risk of moving in the January window.
“He would be prepared to take that risk for United. There’s an opportunity there for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, if he’s still in charge.”
Dembele isn’t the only Dembele United are being linked with.
Ousmane Dembele has also emerged as a transfer target amid his failure to flourish at Barcelona.
Yet former Liverpool star Steve McManaman has claimed that United need far more than both players to turn their fortunes around.
“[Ousmane] Dembele went for more than €100million didn’t he, so they would want to recoup a lot of that,” McManaman said.
“[And] Lyon are notoriously crafty in the transfer market.
“Of course they do [need a goalscorer].
“To be honest though, they need a lot more than that.
“But you have to be patient unfortunately, you can’t just go out and buy six or seven and hope that they’ll fit in.”
United have also been linked with Juventus hitman Mario Mandzukic, who is primed to leave the Old Lady this winter.
But who they end up signing remains to be seen.
