Aston Villa’s ambitious transfer plans as Manchester United dressing room disaffection revealed and Phillipe Coutinho could affect Liverpool plans – Premier League round-up
With the January window looming, we keep an eye on any developing transfer news and rumours doing the rounds.
We also take a look at what else is happening around the division.
Aston Villa are among the favourites to sign Eric Dier from Tottenham Hotspur during the January transfer window.
Villa forked out over £130m on summer transfers to make the squad Premier League ready following promotion from the Championship in May.
Owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens delivered on their promise to spend, delving into their pockets to complete deals for the likes of Wesley Moraes, Tyrone Mings and Douglas Luiz with 12 new players joining.
With under two months until the window re-opens, Villa’s decision-makers are weighing up their options and the bookies think Dier could be on the shortlist.
The 25-year-old England international has made over 200 appearances for Tottenham since joining the club from Portuguese side Sporting in 2014.
But he’s played just three matches this season after the summer arrival of Tanguy Ndombele with Harry Winks preferred as the France enforcer’s partner in the middle.

It has been suggested he could be transfer-listed in January with Spurs looking to cut ties – and Villa have been placed installed as third favourites to complete a deal.
But Manchester United is considered to be his most likely destination (7/2) followed by Everton (9/2).
Villa are already well-stocked in the middle of the park with Jack Grealish, John McGinn, Marvelous Nakamba, Douglas Luiz, Conor Hourihane and Henri Lansbury offering a host of options.
Over the summer, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer targeted young, homegrown players who could develop with a new-look team.
But United also tried to sign Antoine Griezmann and Fernando Llorente over the summer, according to one report.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire and Daniel James all signed ahead of the new season.
The new strategy was supposed to mark a shift away from signing big-name players who were already at their peak.
Coutinho the key
Philippe Coutinho could be key to Liverpool’s transfer business in January – because he is pushing Thomas Muller out of the Bayern Munich team.
Former Liverpool attacker Coutinho has jumped ahead of Muller in the Bayern pecking order since joining on loan from Barcelona in the summer, with Muller having started the last five matches on the bench.
Muller, 30, has reportedly decided to leave Bayern due to his lack of playing time, and will be on the radar of Premier League clubs ahead of the transfer window opening in the new year.
While he could be a target for Manchester United , who are desperate to improve their attacking options, Muller has also been linked with Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp reportedly tried to sign him in 2017.
Arsenal transfer blow
Malen has been in outstanding form for PSV Eindhoven so far this season, having fired 16 goals already – 10 of which came in nine appearances in the Eredivisie.
The 20-year-old even scored five goals in one game when PSV thrashed Vitesse 5-0 last month.
So it’s no surprise that Europe’s top clubs are watching him, with Arsenal reportedly hoping to re-sign the player they sold for just £200,000 two years ago, while AC Milan are also believed to be interested.
But it’s a blow for both teams that Barcelona are now tracking the Dutch international, who made his international debut earlier this month.
