Chelsea emerge as frontrunners to sign Leicester star Ben Chilwell
Chelsea are plotting a New Year raid for Leicester star Ben Chilwell.
The Blues are currently under a transfer embargo – but Frank Lampard is already making plans.
The west Londoners can’t currently make any new signings this January.
But the club are challenging that ruling and want the decision to be overturned.
Lampard was also unable to add to his squad during the summer due to the decision from FIFA.
The Daily Mail say Chilwell is high on the west Londoners’ wish list if Lampard is allowed to bring in fresh faces.
The England international is a rising star at Leicester and his impressive performances haven’t gone unnoticed.
“The beauty with Ben is the more I work with him, the more I realise how much he is going to improve,” Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers said earlier this month.
“It is scary really. He has only really broken through in the last couple of years and yet when I talk to him he is learning and wanting to learn all the time, so he has still got levels to come up.
“It’s frightening because he is up there with the best at this level.
“He is young and he is only going to get better. Like James [Maddison], they are hungry to improve and that is important.”
Maddison, who had to withdraw from the England squad this week with an injury, is also being chased by rival clubs.
Manchester United have been touted as potential suitors for the exciting attacker.
But ex-Leicester boss Micky Adams told Starsport that Leicester is as good as anywhere for young players.
“Leicester have shown in terms of wages and ambition that they’re as good as anyone,” he said.
“Maddison would have to go to a Manchester City or a Liverpool to improve on what he’s got a Leicester.”
