‘Taken a decision’ – Manager reveals Wolves fitness concern


Leander Dendoncker has been ruled out of Belgium’s Euro 2020 qualifier with San Marino on Thursday night, Roberto Martinez has confirmed.

The 24-year-old has featured in every Premier League and Europa League fixture for Wolves thus far this season, but has endured some fitness issues with the national side.

He missed Belgium’s first game with San Marino back in September with a slight knee injury and will now miss the return fixture with the minnows following a bout of illness.

“Dendoncker will miss the game. He wasn’t fit to train. We still haven’t taken a decision about the Kazakhstan match,” Martinez told DH (via Sport Witness ).

 

He went into no further detail on the issue keeping him out of the tie, but reports in Belgium have suggested the midfielder is suffering with Gastroentiritis.

The fact that Martinez has hinted he could be fit for their second qualifier at the start of next week, will heighten hopes that he will be fully recovered when Wolves meet Southampton a week on Saturday.
