Manchester United fans name the injured player who has been biggest miss
Manchester United fans believe that Anthony Martial has been missed more than their other recent injury absences.
As well as Martial, Paul Pogba, Victor Lindelof, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Jesse Lingard and Luke Shaw were all sidelined for the clash, meaning a threadbare United were well below their best.
And although Solskjaer has refused to use his injury list as an excuse for United’s poor form this season — they have won two of their eight Premier League games — he will be hopeful of welcoming back several stars, after the international break.
A 47 per cent share, of more than 3,000 voters, picked the striker. 35 per cent went for Pogba, 16 per cent for Wan-Bissaka and 2 per cent for Shaw. Lindelof has given an update on his fitness while on international duty for Sweden and should be back soon, having missed the Newcastle game, while Solskjaer will provide updates on his other stars at his press conference before United face Liverpool on October 20th.
The result of the poll is an indictment of United’s biggest problem at the moment, which is scoring goals.
They have scored just five goals in their past eight games in all competitions, all played without Martial.
The Frenchman scored in United’s 4-0 win over Chelsea on the opening day and in their 1-1 draw with Wolves in the second match of the season, but after picking up a thigh strain against Crystal Palace, has been resigned to the treatment table.
