Man Utd news: Stance on re-signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic explained as transfer plans devised | Football | Sport

Manchester United will not consider re-signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic to help fix their woes in front of goal, reports claim.

The striker was a cult hero amongst Red Devils supporters and boasted an impressive goal record during his time at Old Trafford, whilst also winning the Community Shield, League Cup and Europa League in his first season at the club.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is actively looking to sign a striker in the January transfer window, but it looks as if Ibrahimovic is not one of the options they will explore.

According to the Daily Telegraph, United will no longer be signing quick-fixes and that includes the big Swede, who is now playing for LA Galaxy.

That’s with the view that short-term solutions will only cause further harm to United’s operation and there is little margin for error at this difficult period of time.

A few weeks ago, Manchester United were left with just one fit senior striker following a groin injury to Marcus Rashford.

That saw Solskjaer’s failure to replace Alexis Sanchez or Romelu Lukaku thrown into further question.

Solskjaer confirmed United would look to bring in new attacking players this winter.

“We let Alexis and Romelu go,” the 46-year-old said.

“You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to see that it’s forward that next time we’re going to recruit.

“We’re looking for some creativity and goals.

“There’s no point getting players in that you’re not 100 per cent sure about.

“When you get players in, you need the right ones that are going to stay here for a longer period and that’s the long-term thinking we have to show.

“I cannot think, ‘I need a player because this is my reputation’. No, it’s the club.

“There were strikers [available in the off-season], but they weren’t the ones we wanted. We couldn’t get the one we wanted.”

Mario Mandzukic was targeted alongside Paulo Dybala towards the end of the summer transfer window and the Croatian could now leave Juventus in January with United reportedly keen.
