Jose Mourinho rejects Lyon having ‘chosen next club’ with two teams standing out
Jose Mourinho has reportedly already chosen his next destination, as the Special One looks to get back into football management.
Before Sylvinho took the job at the Groupama Stadium, it was said they couldn’t afford Mourinho‘s wages.
This time around, Aulas claims it’s because the former Chelsea boss has already decided his next destination.
“We had some fairly flattering exchanges over SMS,” he said.
“It was nice for everyone.
“He did not accept our proposal to meet because he has already chosen another club.”
So where will Mourinho realistically go next?
Two teams stand out as viable options for the 56-year-old.
Los Blancos still haven’t won in the Champions League this term and aren’t putting in the same performances as his first stint in the Spanish capital.
Mourinho has been heavily linked with a Bernabeu return, six years after he left the club.
Florentino Perez is still a close ally of the former Manchester United manager and doesn’t take prisoners when it comes to relieving under-performing managers.
If there’s one thing the outspoken coach will want from his next job, it will be the chance to prove he still has it.
Where better to show the world you’re still ‘special’ than the league in which you were sacked from less than a year ago?
Mauricio Pochettino is under-fire at the north London club and could be axed or even walk in the next few weeks.
All other options seem unlikely.
PSG have wanted Mourinho in the past but look comfortable under Thomas Tuchel.
Bayern Munich also look settled with Niko Kovac.
Everton have also been heavily linked with a move for Mourinho but it’s unlikely he would accept a job where European football isn’t guaranteed.
Realistically, the ‘Special One’ will find his next project in either the Spanish or English capital.
