Manchester United fans say the same thing after Germany legend Bastian Schweinsteiger retires
Manchester United fans have been wishing former midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger well after he announced he is set to retire at the end of the season, but have also spoken of a regret they have over his ill-fated time at Old Trafford.
Legendary midfielder Schweinsteiger called time on his glittering career on Tuesday in a statement on his Instagram page, which read: “Dear Fans, the time has now come, and I will be finishing my active career at the end of this season. I would like to thank both, you and my teams Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Chicago Fire and the German national team.
“You made this unbelievable time possible for me! And of course, I would also like to thank my wife and my family for their support.
“Saying goodbye as an active player makes me feel a little nostalgic, but I am also looking forward to the exciting challenges that await me soon.
“I will remain faithful to football. Many, many thanks for the time we spent together, I will always have a place for you in my heart! Yours, Basti.”
The 35-year-old’s career has spanned nearly two decades and he has won nearly all there is to win including the Champions League, Bundesliga eight times, German Cup seven times, the UEFA Super Cup, the Club World Cup, the Europa League, League Cup, FA Cup and, of course, the World Cup.
After spending 17-years at Bayern Munich, Schweinsteiger moved to the Premier League to sign for United in 2015, saying upon his arrival: “I said from the start that I didn’t want to move to another European club. There is only Bayern and United for me.”
It immediately endeared himself to United fans but he would only go on to make 35 appearances for the club due to two unfortunate ligament injuries.
That’s why United fans have been wishing that Schweinsteiger arrived at United earlier in his career while congratulating him on his retirement.
