Former Birmingham City assistant odds-on favourite for Championship managerial job
Former Birmingham City assistant manager Mark Bowen is the odds-on favourite for the Reading job.
The Royals are on the hunt for a new boss after confirming earlier today (Wednesday) that Jose Gomes had left the club after 10 months in charge.
Gomes was appointed as Paul Clement’s successor in December last year and helped them avoid relegation, but has picked up just two wins so far in the 2019-20 season.
A club statement said: “Following just two wins in the first 11 league games in 2019-20, owner Mr Yongge Dai has made the difficult decision to part company with Gomes and make a change at first-team level.
“We would like to sincerely thank José for his hard work during his tenure as manager at Reading Football Club and we wish him the very best of luck in his future career.”
Experienced manager Mark Hughes was the early favourite, but a shift in the betting now has Bowen at 4/9.
Bowen spent three years at Birmingham, between 2001 and 2004, as assistant to Steve Bruce.
Full list of odds:
Mark Bowen – 4/9
Mark Hughes – 5/2
Chris Hughton – 8/1
Gareth Ainsworth – 10/1
