Chelsea news: Abraham names Liverpool’s Van Dijk as defender he hates playing against | Football | Sport
Chelsea ace Tammy Abraham identified Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk as the one defender he fears playing against the most.
Abraham has been in phenomenal form ever since breaking through to the Blues’ starting line-up along with other bright young talent under Frank Lampard.
The striker has scored nine goals in 11 matches for far in this campaign and tops the scoring charts in the Premier League along with Manchester City star Sergio Aguero.
And that was because he couldn’t find a way past the Reds’ star defender Van Dijk, whom he described as a “beast”.
The England international claims his movement doesn’t make it too hard to get trough some defences.
But Van Vijk was able to read his positioning as well as runs with the ball and gave him no chance in Liverpool’s box.
Abraham said: “He’s a beast.
“He’s just good at what he does. He’s experienced. I try to do a little…
“I try to use my tricks in my head but his understanding of the game is top drawer.
“It is to do with little things. Movement.
“My movement in the box, some defenders don’t pay attention to me – they are only focussed on the ball.
“With him, it’s kind of both, he’s paying attention to me and the ball, knows where I am, knows where I want to go, follows me.
“It’s quite annoying for a striker – just leave me alone!”
Abraham has been called up for international duty by England boss Gareth Southgate.
The Chelsea star could be involved in the Three Lions’ upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Bulgaria away.
