‘Aiming higher’ – the Rangers view on those Alfredo Morelos transfer rumours
Aston Villa have been linked with a move for Rangers forward Alfredo Morelos ahead of the January transfer window.
Morelos himself fuelled speculation he could move south of the border by admitting his admiration for the Premier League.
He told Colombian media: “It’s not a secret that I admire the English Premier League. I have to keep scoring goals for Rangers if I am ever to get a chance of moving to a club there.”
Morelos has been a hit with Rangers since joining from HJK Helsinki two years ago, scoring 61 times in just 106 appearances.
He has 14 in 18 appearances already this season for Steve Gerrard’s men.
Some Villa fans were sceptical of the links, given last season’s disciplinary record, and Rangers fans were baffled as to why they weren’t keen for him to head to Villa Park.
Here’s the best of what has been said on social media.
@FacelessRanger: Bemused at the Villa fans rubbishing Alfredo. I’ll remind you he plays in the same league as McGinn came from, and Morelos is a better player by a considerable distance.
@RangersBanter17: He should be aiming higher than Aston Villa, decent club but Morelos will be a revelation down south.
@RoyalBlue1872: Hope the Villa board have your attitude. Happy for him to remain.

@RyanKerr_1: Anyone who thinks Morelos isn’t good enough for Aston Villa are mental 43 goals since the start of last season is a superb strike rate at any level.
@TheStandardBea2: It’s as if there’s a narrative amongst some to try and bring his price down…. he’s been targeted by everybody in Scotland simply because he’s a Rangers player. One red card rescinded last year and should of been more, his discipline isn’t an issue as soon as he leaves Scotland.
