Next Sunderland manager odds: Former Birmingham City striker linked while ex-bosses feature
Former Birmingham City striker Kevin Phillips is one of the early names linked with the vacant Sunderland job.
Phillips, a legend with the Stadium of Light faithful, is a 10/1 shot following the dismissal of Jack Ross.
Ex- Blues boss Gary Rowett is an early favourite at 8/1, with Chris Hughton in there at 16/1.
The Black Cats reached the play-off final under Jack Ross last season, only to be beaten by Charlton Athletic at Wembley.
Two defeats this season have them in sixth place, eight points off leaders Ipswich Town, and the board have acted.
In a statement this afternoon, Sunderland chairman Stewart Donald said: “This is a decision that has been made with a heavy heart. When we arrived at the club 18 months ago, we appointed Jack because we felt that he was the right man to take Sunderland forward over a number of years.
“Jack has worked extremely hard, and has helped us achieve stability at the club, and I sincerely thank him for his efforts. I hope and believe that he will go on to have a successful career in management.”
