What Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told Manchester United players after West Ham defeat

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reiterated his Manchester United players need to do more, according to midfielder Scott McTominay.

United fell to their second league defeat of the season away to West Ham after goals from Andriy Yarmolenko and Aaron Cresswell gave Manuel Pellegrini‘s side a 2-0 win and the players know they need to improve.

Since winning each of his first nine away games as United manager in all competitions, Solskjaer has now failed to win his last nine away from home and McTominay explained what the team needs to do to get back to winning ways.

“We know we have to do more on and off the ball and if you’re not doing the jobs on the pitch then you need to be told and it’s as simple as that,” McTominay told MUTV. “It’s up to us now and the leaders that we’ve got in the group to bring everybody together and keep our heads.

“It’s not the time to back down and say ‘It’s okay.’ Because it’s not okay we need to do more on and off the pitch and as a group as well. The manager has reiterated that to us and it’s all about standards of this football club and they weren’t there today.”

United have scored just eight goals in the league this season and the Scotland international spoke about how the defenders and midfielders need to do more to help the forwards.

“It’s fine moments in the game. You need to take your chances and it’s up to everybody the defenders, the midfielders and the strikers we all have to do more and we all have to contribute more to our attacking play going forward as well,” he said. “We had opportunities today and it’s football you need to take them and if you don’t you get punished.”
