Graeme Souness gives brutal assessment of Man Utd team after West Ham defeat

Graeme Souness has slammed Manchester United after their 2-0 defeat to West Ham, claiming their current team is the “worst group” the club has had in the Premier League era.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men suffered their second defeat of the season at the London Stadium through goals from Andriy Yarmolenko and Aaron Cresswell.

The defeat leaves the Red Devils in eighth spot in the Premier League with eight points from their first six matches.

And while Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Daniel James have been some of the better performers so far this season, there are serious problems at the club.

The decision to allow Romelu Lukaku to leave without bringing in a replacement forward has been criticised, with Marcus Rashford being trusted to lead the line at Old Trafford.

And with bitter rivals Liverpool and Manchester City looking imperious once again at the top of the Premier League, it is a long road ahead to bring back the glory years.

After the defeat to West Ham, former manager Jose Mourinho insisted the team were no better now than when he was in charge, while former captain Roy Keane said has had been left “shocked” at the team’s collapse.”/>

And former Liverpool midfielder Souness went one step further by claiming that the current crop of United players was the worst they have ever had in the Premier League.

“I would say this is the worst group United have had since the Premier League started,” he told Sky Sports.

“I grew up with United being an institution with experienced players. United are starting with a 22-year-old in Rashford and the next biggest threat is James.

“I think United find themselves in a very difficult place. From the minute Fergie left, the problems have compounded.””/>

Keane, who won seven Premier League titles during his time at United, added that he was worried for Solskjaer’s future, claiming that the Norwegian looked “disgusted” with the performance at West Ham.

“There was a feel-good factor for Ole at the start and he needs three of four transfer windows,” he added.

“But if you’re not getting results and lose matches like today, the pressure builds and builds. You won’t get time.

“I have known Ole for a long time. I can tell looking at his eyes he is fuming and disgusted.”
