Tottenham transfer news: Spurs set up Serie A scouting mission for Fiorentina star | Football | Sport

Tottenham are stepping up their interest in Fiorentina’s highly-rated Italian under-21 international winger Riccardo Sottil.

The 20-year-old has only made a handful of appearances for Fiorentina but has come onto the radar of Tottenham’s recruitment team.

Sottil had a spell on loan earlier this year at Serie B side Pescara where he made a big impression before returning to Fiorentina in the summer.

He has been tipped as a future Italian international and Tottenham are the first Premier League side to show an interest in him.

Tottenham have been paying a lot of attention to the Italian market recently and are particularly interested in young players who they can develop even further.

And they are due to watch Sottil against Atalanta on Sunday to compile an initial report.

Spurs are likely to keep tabs on him to eventually make a move.

Club chairman Daniel Levy recently declared that the north London outfit could have spent more last summer, despite their business totalling in excess of £100million.

Levy told the Financial Times: “We could have easily spent more money on players.

“Who knows if that would have bought us more success or not, the right approach is to build from the bottom up.

“There is no quick fix to becoming a much more significant global club.”

Spurs broke their transfer record with the £55m capture of Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon, also spending £25m on Ryan Sessegnon, £8.5m on Jack Clarke and £14m to sign Giovani Lo Celso on loan, with the option to make the deal permanent for £55m next summer.
