Tottenham slammed over ‘strange’ transfer decision as troubles continue for team

Tottenham should not have sold Kieran Trippier in the summer and must find a replacement in the January transfer window.

That is according to former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara, who claims it was a “strange” decision to sell Trippier to Atletico Madrid.

Trippier left the club to join the La Liga side in July for an initial fee of £20m in the summer, leaving Mauricio Pochettino with two recognised right-backs.

O’Hara though does not think that Kyle Walker-Peters and Serge Aurier are as good as Trippier and reckons the club need to dip into the market at their first opportunity.‘strange’-transfer-decision-as-troubles-continue-for.jpg”/>

He says it is clear from Tottenham’s results this season, where they have thrown away two-goal leads on more than one occasions, they could do with the 29-year-old in their defence.

“I think the problem you’ve got is that if [Christian] Eriksen goes, people will start questioning where the ambition is with the football club and they’re going to be like ‘are we going to kick on here? Are we going to get players in?’,” O’Hara said on talkSPORT.

“The biggest one for me is the Trippier one [which] I found strange.

“That’s where they’re struggling, Tottenham can’t hold onto a lead at the minute.‘strange’-transfer-decision-as-troubles-continue-for.jpg”/>

“They keep giving away poor goals and they didn’t replace someone who I thought was one of their best players.

“So in January I think they’re going to have to obviously look at that straight away.

“The back four to me doesn’t look as solid as it was last season.”

Earlier this month Trippier claimed he did not want to leave Tottenham and thought it was the wrong time for the club to let him go.‘strange’-transfer-decision-as-troubles-continue-for.jpg”/>

“I just feel that Tottenham probably got rid of me at the wrong time,” he said.

“I just needed that four-week rest for recovery because I was struggling with injuries to come back, fresh, ready.

“It’s disappointing. I gave everything for the club and I wanted to stay. I had another couple of years left. But everything happens for a reason.”

Spurs threw away another lead on Saturday for the third time in four games, losing 2-1 at Leicester.
